Big Eddy The area north of Millinocket is a vast sweep of forest, dotted with lakes and ledge, and cut by one of the most fabled rivers in Maine, the West Branch of the Penobscot. This is Thoreau country, the setting for the journeys described in Henry David Thoreau’s The Maine Woods. It is a land rich in human and natural history, and nowhere more so than at Big Eddy, where the Penobscot River finally slows after a 5-mile tumble through the rapids of Ripogenus Gorge.

Bear Brook State Park – 157 Deerfield Road, Allenstown, NH 03275 This 10,000-acre park has 101 wooded campsites located on Beaver Pond. There are miles of trails for a wide variety of recreational opportunities. A camp store, canoe rentals, coin-operated showers, laundry facilities, dump station, ice, and firewood are available. This is a pet friendly campground.

Coleman State Park – 1166 Diamond Pond Rd, Stewartstown, NH 03597 On Little Diamond Pond, this 25 site campground offers an excellent base for fishing, kayaking, hunting, ATV camping and more. This is a pet friendly campground.

Deer Mountain Campground – 5309 North Main St, Pittsburg, NH 03592 Just south of the Canadian border, this 25 site primitive campground is located in Connecticut Lakes State Forest. This is a pet friendly campground.

Dry River Campground – 1464 US Route 302, Hunts Location, NH 03812 This 35-site campground is a woodland setting, located in the heart of Crawford Notch State Park. Flush toilets and showers are located in the campground. This is a pet friendly campground.

Ellacoya State Park – 266 Scenic Rd, Gilford, NH 03246 The 38 full hookup sites on the shore of Lake Winnipesauke offers mountain views.

Cannon Mountian RV Park – Route 3, Franconia, NH 03580 Located at the north end of Franconia Notch State Park, it offers 7 full-hookup campsites. The RV Park is open year-round with limited services.

Lafayette Place Campground – Route 93, Franconia, NH 03580 In the heart of Franconia Notch State Park, this 97 site wooded campground is open year round (no services mid-October through mid-May). It is a great base for hiking, biking and exploring the White Mountain region.

Greenfield State Park – 133 Beach Rd, Greenfield, NH 03047 Tucked away in this 400-acre park are ponds, bogs and a 179-site campground. The campground has a separate beach. This is a pet friendly campground.

Hampton Beach State Park – Route 1A, Hampton, NH 03842 The only RV park directly on the New Hampshire coast at the mouth of the Hampton River. The park is located south of the main part of Hampton Beach on Route 1A at the Seabrook-Hampton town line. Route 1A can be easily reached from I-95 by either Route 101 or 286.

Jericho Mountain State Park – 298 Jericho Lake Road, Berlin, NH 03570 The campground has 20 primitive campsites, including 5 cabins, 6 tent sites and 9 RV sites, and offers only water and portable toilets this season. The campground connects to the 75 miles of OHRV trails at the park, a day-use area with a beach for swimming, pavilion and boat launch. Campsite fees will be $23/night and cabin fees are $50/night.

Lake Francis State Park – 439 River Road, Pittsburg, NH 03592 In the Great North Woods this lakefront park offers 45 sites for tent camping, ATV camping as well as some 2-way hookups. The park offers excellent base for fishing, wildlife viewing and kayaking. This is a pet friendly campground.

Milan Hill State Park – 72 Fire Tower Rd, Milan, NH 03588 With sweeping views of the White Mountains, mountains of Maine and Canada this park offers 10 campsites including 4 yurts for primitive camping. This is a pet friendly campground.

Mollidgewock State Park – 1437 Berlin Road, Errol, NH 03579 Located on NH Route 16, approximately 28 miles north of Berlin and three miles south of Errol, the campground is open for reservable stays from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend. The primitive tenting campground offers campsites, including remote and canoe-to sites along the Androscoggin and Magalloway Rivers. Water and pit toilets are located in the campground. Wood and ice are offered for sale, and kayaks can be rented. Thirteen Mile Woods Scenic Area, in which the campground is located, is popular for watching moose and other wildlife. The nearby rivers are a favorite among picnickers, anglers, canoeists, and kayakers. This is a pet friendly

Gilson Pond Campground – 116 Poole Road, Jaffrey, NH 03452 Gilson Pond Campground campground has 34 campsites for tents or pop-ups, 6 remote hike-to sites and new bathhouse and playground. The campground at Monadnock headquarters offers youth group camping and is open year-round.campground.

Moose Brook State Park – 30 Jimtown Road, Gorham, NH 03581 With 59 campsites, the park is ideally located for fishing in the Peabody and Moose rivers. There many trails in the park are great for exploring on foot or mountain bike. This is a pet friendly campground.

Mount Sunapee State Park – 86 Beach Access Road, Newbury, NH 03255 The campground has 10 campsites including 5 lean-tos and one platform site. The sites are wooded and are for tent camping.

Pawtuckaway State Park – 40 Pawtuckaway Road, Nottingham, NH 03290 The campground offers 192 wooded campsites, many providing views of the lake. Each campsite has an open fireplace, picnic table, flat area for a tent, and a parking space. Running water, flush toilets, a camp store, boat launch, and canoe and kayak rentals are available. Coin-operated showers are accessible 24 hours a day. Five cabins are available; each sleeps six people, has electricity, and includes a fire ring and picnic table.

Pillsbury State Park – 100 Pillsbury State Park Road, Washington, NH 03280 This 41 site primitive campground includes canoe-to and walk-in sites. The park is heavily wooded with several ponds and wetlands that offer a variety of wildlife. This is a pet friendly campground.

Umbagog Lake State Park – 235 East Route 26, Cambridge, NH 03579 Campground offers 63 sites with tent and 2-way hookup sites, remote sites and three cabins. Park is great for wildlife viewing. This is a pet friendly campground.

White Lake State Park – 94 State Park Road, Tamworth, NH 03886 The 203-site campground is located on the shore of White Lake with some of the best swimming in the White Mountain region.
